Nigerian students and their dependants contributed an estimated £1.9 billion to the economy of the United Kingdom (UK) in the 2021/2022 academic session.
This is according to a report by SBM Intelligence.
A breakdown of the figure in the report showed that an estimated sum of £680,620,000 was paid as school fees with a total of £54.3 million paid in taxes by working spouses of the students, while another estimated sum of £41.7 million was paid as health insurance.
It further revealed that the Nigerian immigrants paid £408.37 million as rent while a total of £151.26 million was paid as national insurance.
Recent data released by the Home Office of the United Kingdom revealed that the number of study visas released to Nigerians increased by 222.8 per cent to 65,929 in June 2022 from 20,427 in the corresponding period of 2021.
