The Kogi State government and the management of Dangote Group have reached an amicable agreement to reopen the Obajana Cement Plant, the federal government has said.
Minister of police affairs, Mohammed Dingyadi, who briefed journalists at the end of the national security council meeting in Abuja, on Friday, said an agreement had been reached to ensure the re-opening of the plant to give room for peace in the state.
“Government is committed to the provision of employment to its citizens rather than closing factories that will make people unemployed and we do hope that the parties involved will respect this agreement and come to terms with the memorandum of understanding signed by the parties involved,” the minister said.
He further stated that the agreement was reached under the supervision of the chief of staff to the president, Ibrahim Gambari.
The Kogi government and Dangote Group have been at daggers drawn over ownership of the plant.
Things got to a head on Wednesday when the state government issued the Dangote Group a 48-hour ultimatum to shut down the plant.
