The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that about 2.7 million double registrations have been removed from the system after the last Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
Chairman of INEC, Professor Mamoud Yakubu, made this known in his address at a National Endowment for Democracy event in Washington DC, United States of America.
INEC had earlier disclosed that the cleaning up of the register of voters using the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) was ongoing since the discontinuation of the CVR on July 31, 2022.
Yakubu also stated that the commission will make available the new set of permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) by November this year.
According to him, about 50 per cent of the new PVCs are ready but yet to be distributed to collection centres.
