An official of the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Usman Gujus, has received a heroic welcome in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi state.
Mr Gujus was among the last batch of 23 passengers Kaduna train hostages released on Wednesday in Kaduna.
After their release, the freed hostages were taken to a military hospital in Kaduna, where they were treated and later met with President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday.
Mr Gujus arrived Birnin Kebbi on Friday and he was received by members of the Kebbi state chapter of the NURTW and other well wishers who waited for him at Lambar Gwandu.
He was subsequently driven in an open roof vehicle to Kofar Kola neighborhood in Birnin Kebbi.
Residents and other sympathizers have been thronging the place to rejoice with him since his arrival on Friday.
On March 28, dozen ISWAP terrorists launched a lethal attack on the Kaduna-bound train, killing nine persons, injuring 28 others and kidnapping 63 passengers.
After six months and seven days in captivity, the train attackers released the remaining 23 abducted passengers bringing an end to the six-month-old crisis. The release was facilitated by a seven-man’s Chief of Defence Staff Action Committee.
