The Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE) on Wednesday shut the corporate headquarters of the Corporate Affairs Commission in Abuja following their protest over alleged stale promotion by the agency’s Registrar-General, Garba Abubakar.
The protesters, led by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), President, Ayuba Wabba, blocked the entrance and exits of the commission’s building as early as 8:00 am.
The development restricted vehicular movement and prevented other civil servants whose offices were around the commission from accessing their offices.
Wabba alleged that the CAC’s boss committed various anti-union offences, ranging from corruption, illegal redeployment of married women out of the commission, stopping staff’s promotion arrears among others.
He alleged that the CAC Registrar-General brought in environmental experts to fumigate the agency for N35 million in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, including contracting someone to paint the Zone 5 annexe office for N25 million.
The AUPCTRE Chairman, Ibrahim Makirfi, had given an ultimatum to the Federal Government to avert a crisis in the commission after a series of letters detailing offences of the CAC boss.
