Former Inspector General of Police, Musiliu Smith, has resigned as the Chairman of Police Service Commission (PSC).
This is following months of supremacy battle crisis over the recruitment of police constables between the commission and the Office of the Inspector-General of Police.
The commission had advertised recruitment for police officers and urged applicants to visit its website to apply.
However, the force headquarters, in a statement urged the public to discard the notice, claiming the recruitment process as its sole responsibility.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE gathered that the PSC board requested Mr Smith to resign. The former IGP gladly accepted and resigned, a source at the commission said.
Mr Smith, it was learned, may hand over the representative of judiciary at the PSC, Justice Clara Ogunbiyi (rtd).
The spokesperson of the commission, Mr Ikechukwu Ani, confirmed Mr Smith’s exit to Daily Trust on Wednesday.
