Four persons have been reportedly killed when armed robbers attacked branches of three major banks Tuesday in Ankpa, headquarters of Ankpa local government area of Kogi State.
The banks include the First Bank and Zenith Bank, where they carted away millions of naira.
A banker with one the attacked banks who craves anonymity in a telephone interview told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that about four persons were killed in the operation that lasted for more than two hours.
Another female resident who simply gave her name as Hussaina told our reporter that the robbers came in an unidentifiable bus.
“They first bombed the Ankpa police sbtation before they started attacking First Bank, and then moved to Zenith Bank,” she said.
Residents recount that the heavily armed robbers were many and nobody including the police could challenge them as they operated from around 2 pm to about 5pm.
They said the police only surfaced much later after the robbers had run away with their loot.
