Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubabar will on Sunday receive former Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau back to the party.
This was disclosed by the PDP Chairman in Kano, Shehu Wada Sagagi, on Saturday.
The chairman, in an interview with Daily Trust on Saturday, said Senator Shekarau had accepted to return to the PDP.
Mr Shekarau represents Kano central senatorial district at the senate.
Before 2019 elections, he left the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the buildup to the 2019 elections. He moved to the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) some months ago.
He parted ways with NNPP leader and former Kano state Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Mr Sagagi said, “Alhamdulillah, finally, we now have a leader in Kano and I am delighted. Shekarau, being the highest political office holder as provided by the constitution, has accepted and we have welcomed him back to our dear party, the PDP.
“All arrangements are in top gear in preparation to receive Atiku Abubakar who will be in Kano on Sunday, hopefully to receive Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau. We have accepted to follow him and we shall succeed, God willing.”
Mr Shekarau is the senatorial candidate of the NNPP in the 2023 general elections.
On Monday last week, he said, “I am done with NNPP,” during the meeting with his teeming supporters.
Shekarau, serving senator representing Kano Central, is the senatorial candidate of the NNPP in the 2023 general elections.
He said Kwankwaso has betrayed his trust and denied his supporters the NNPP tickets as earlier agreed before he joined the party.
He said after giving him his senate ticket, Kwankwaso has been dribbling him over the fate of his supporters.
Mr Shekarau said, “Since then Kwankwaso has kept deceiving me. Too months later, only for him to say we are late for my supporters to be on the list and there was nothing he could do.
“With all these and many more lies from Kwankwaso, I have no place in the NNPP. This is because my party politics always goes with my supporters and any attempt to throw them away and separate them from me would be vehemently rejected.”
