The Borno State government on Monday said it will rebuild public and residential structures in Gudumbali town, a former Boko Haram stronghold.
This was disclosed by the State Commissioner Ministry of Reconstruction Rehabilitation and Resettlement, Engr. Mustapha Gubio, after a visit to Gudumbali.
The military recently recaptured the town, which is the headquarters of Guzamala Local Government Area in the state.
Boko Haram terrorists first attacked Gudumbali in 2018, forcing the residents to take refuge in Monguno and Maiduguri.
In 2018, however, the residents were resettled but were chased away by the insurgents three months after.
During the inauguration of the resettlement committee last month,
Last month, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum had charged the military to recapture Gudumbali to enable rebuilding and resettlement process.
Engr Gubio said the town has been recaptured and the committee’s first priority is to have a military formation in Gudumbali so that reconstruction and resettlement process would be achieved in a short possible time.
The commissioner said, “We conducted an assessment on the level of destruction in Gulumbali. As the Chairman of the committee has said we are going back to submit the report to the governor so that the reconstruction activity will commence. Thereafter, resettlement activity will follow.”
