Seven people have been killed in the Orogwe area of Imo state by suspected members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).
This was disclosed by the spokesperson of Imo Police Command, CSP Mike Abattam, in a statement.
He said the gunmen stormed the neighbourhood on Monday night and shot at residents of a building in the community.
Mr Abattam revealed that the police got a distress call that suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its mikitary wing Eastern Security Network (ESN), came in a black Lexus Jeep and three motorcycles carrying two persons each, shooting sporadically at the occupants in a building at Orogwe, Owerri West LGA, Imo State.
The spokesperson said the building is owned by one Sir Chima Ogbuehi living in Lagos.
He said other occupants of the building were critically injured.
He said the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ahmed Barde, has ordered for an investigation into the killing, adding that the police would arrest the criminals and prosecute them.
