The Northwest zone comprising Kano, Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Jigawa and Katsina, has the highest number of 22.67 million registered voters as total number of registered voters in the country hit 96.2 million.
This figure is the highest since 1999 when Nigeria returned to civilian rule. During the 1999 elections, INEC registered 57.9 million voters. The figure rose to 60.8 million in 2003 and 61.5 million in 2007.
By 2011, the total registered voters rose to 73.5 million and dropped to 67. 4 million in 2015, before riding again in 2019 to 82 million.
Official data analysed by 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE revealed that the number of registered voters rose from 82 million in 2019 to 96.2 million as of Sunday when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ended the continuous voter registration (CVR).
INEC had registered 12.2 million voters during the just concluded CVR.
Geopolitical breakdown
The Northwest voting power rose from 20.15 million in 2019 to 22.67 million, recording 2.5 million new voters during the recent CVR.
The Southwest comprising Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Osun and Ekiti came second with 18.3 million total registered voters. This figure rose from 16.29 million in 2019, having added 2, 039, 982 new voters during the CVR.
With 15.3 million total registered voters, the South-South, comprising Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Cross River, Bayelsa, Edo and Delta states, came third. Its voting capacity was 12.8 million in 2019.
The fourth position goes to the Northcentral, comprising Nasarawa, Kogi, Benue, Niger, Kwara and Plateau states. Its total registered voters is 14.1 million.
The Northeast states of Yobe, Borno, Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi and Gombe, has 12.8 million total registered voters, having added 1.5 million during the CVR.
The Southeast, comprising Ebonyi, Enugu, Abia, Anambra and Imo states, has a total registered votes if 11.49 million.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) total registered voters rose from 1.3 million in 2019 to 1.5 million now.
Lagos, Kano lead states with highest voters
Lagos maintains its lead as the state with highest voters. Its voting power rose from 6.5 million in 2019 to 7.1 million. Kano State added 569, 103 new voters to jerk up its total number to 6.02 million.
Kaduna has 4.4 million registered voters, Rivers has 3.68 million voters, Katsina 3.57 million, Delta 3.3 million and Oyo 3.3 million.
