Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom on Monday said he is behind the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar.
Mr Ortom is among some PDP governors who were aggrieved over Mr Atiku’s pick of Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as running mate.
The Benue governor had chaired the VP selection committee where 14 out of 17 members of the panel chose Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike over Okowa.
In an interview with Arise TV on Thursday, Mr Atiku said the panel did not undertake a voting process.
The PDP presidential candidate said although the panel recommended three names, which included Mr Wike and Dr Okowa, the committee did not vote at any time.
In his reaction to Atiku’s counterclaim on Monday, Mr Ortom said in his verified Twitter handle that the PDP’s internal crisis will be settled amicably.
Mr Ortomm said, “I will not contradict Atiku on what he said. He is my candidate and I am behind him.
“Whatever happened in the course of the primaries and nomination of the Presidential running mate is now a thing of the past.
“PDP is a family, and we will always settle our matters in-house.”
