Senator Bassey Albert Akpan (Akwa-Ibom North East, PDP) has defected to Young People’s Party, YPP.
The lawmaker’s defection was announced in a letter dated July 18, 2022.
The letter was read at the start of Senate plenary on Wednesday by Senate President Ahmad Lawan.
Senator Akpan chairs the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream).
He said his defection was because of agitations amongst members of the party who were dissatisfied with the absence of a level playing field during the governorship primaries in the state.
