Senator Kashim Shettima was announced on Sunday by APC presidential candidate as his running mate. Here are 10 facts about the former Borno state governor:
- He was born in Maiduguri, Borno state capital on September 2, 1966. He’s a wife and three children.
- He obtained BSc and MSc in Agricultural Economics from University of Maiduguri in 1989, and Univeristy of Ibadan in 1991.
- He did his one-year compulsory NYSC in Calabar, Cross River state in 1990.
- He joined University of Maiduguri as a lecturer in 1991.
- He moved to the banking sector in 1993 and rose to become a General Manager in Zenith Bank in 2007.
- From 2007 to 2011, he was commissioner for finance, local government and chieftaincy affairs, education, agriculture and health in Borno state.
- He was governor of Borno state from 2011 to 2019.
- In 2019, he was elected senator representing Borno Central at the National Assembly.
- In 2013, he formally established youths volunteers (Civilian JTF) that has been assisting military in fighting Boko Haram terrorists.
- He appointed Christians from Southwest, Southeast and South-south as senior aides during his tenure as governor.
