Nigerian rapper and record producer, Jude Lemfani Abaga, popularly called MI, is set to retire his stage name. He had been using the name for 15 years.
He revealed that it is in preparation for his forthcoming new album.
“After over 15yrs as Mister Incredible, I will be retiring the name ‘Mi Abaga’ and taking on a new name for my project bcuz, my new Album hard AF and it deserves a new name,” he wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday.
He further revealed that his last performance as MI Abaga would be on 10th July 2022 as he celebrates his legacy as “Africa’s greatest rapper”.
He said his forthcoming album is “hard,” and it is only right that he unveils the project using a name that matches it.
MI rose to prominence in 2006 when his song ‘Crowd Mentality’ became popular in Jos, Nigeria. His debut studio album “Talk About It” was released in 2008.
His second album ‘MI2: The Movie’, followed in 2010. His last project was ‘Judah the E.P.,’ released in 2020.
