Former Head of State and Chairman, National Peace Committee, Abdulsalami Abubakar says the current security challenges confronting the country demands that citizens join hands to resolve it in order to keep the country united.
Abubakar said this during an interview he granted journalists in his residence in Minna, Niger State.
“It is true that we are all in a state of fear and collective anxiety. However, the last thing we need is for the enemy to sense a lack of unity on our part or a break in our ranks. We, at the National Peace Committee wish to add our voice to the voices of millions of Nigerians calling for calm in these difficult times,” he said.
The former Head of State cautioned state governors to sheathe their sword, time down their rhetoric and take full responsibility for managing the divergent voices and frustrations within their states.
He urged the traditional institutions, religious leaders and NGOs to mobilize Nigerians and sensitize them on the need to live in peace with each other.
