Former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio’s name made the list of the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s senatorial candidates submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2023 elections.
This is despite INEC’s insistence that Akpabio didn’t participate in the primary for the Akwa Ibom Northwest senatorial district it monitored.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the State, Barrister, Mike Igini had said the May 27, 2022 primary, which produced a former Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Udum Ekpoudum (retd.), subsists, amid claims by the former governor that he emerged through a rerun election for the district.
21st Century Chronicle had earlier reported that Senate President Ahmad Lawan’s name also made the list as candidate for Yobe North even when the winner of the ticket, Bashir Machina said he would not step down.
