Senate President, Ahmad Lawan may return to the upper chamber of the National Assembly after all, as he has been listed as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Yobe North.
According to TheCable, Lawan’s name was on the signed list of candidates sighted by the paper on Friday.
Bashir Machina, who won the APC primary for the district, had insisted that he would not step down for Lawan.
Machina who was the sole candidate in the senatorial primary secured 289 votes and was declared as the party’s candidate.
However, after losing the bid to secure the party’s presidential ticket, Lawan aided by the party’s leadership, moved to return to the Senate.
But Machina who confirmed that he has been approached by some persons to step down for Lawan, however vowed not to withdraw from the race.
“I’m sure he did not plan to go back to the national assembly. That is why he contested for the presidency and lost,” he had stated in an interview with journalists.
