A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted permission to the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari to file more evidence against a suit by the Federal Government seeking to extradite him to the United States for trial over criminal charges.
The trial Judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo, according to The PUNCH, granted Kyari’s request through his lead counsel, Nureni Jimoh, in a motion on notice.
Jimoh prayed the court to have the detained police officer bring additional exhibits to establish his innocence in the charges proffered against him by the federal government.
However, counsel to the federal government, Pius Akuta, however opposed the request on the ground that to temper with the earlier documentary evidence adduced by the detained DCP Kyari.
Delivering judgement on the matter, Justice Ekwo rejected the objection of the Federal Government and granted permission to Kyari to adduce further documentary exhibits to his own defense.
The judge said that the court would have ample opportunity to determine the probate value to be attached to the additional evidence.
Justice Ekwo has fixed June 3 for a definite hearing in the extradition suit instituted by the Attorney General of the Federation AGF on behalf of the Federal Government against Kyari.
