The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) has vowed to check the incidences of vote-buying during the June 18 governorship election in Ekiti State.
INEC chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, gave the assurance during a meeting with traditional rulers in the state.
Yakubu said the electoral umpire along with the country’s anti-graft agencies, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), have put machinery in motion to halt the trend.
“We (INEC) are going to take steps with the EFCC and ICPC to ensure that this sad trend of using money to bribe voters does not mar the forthcoming Ekiti election as we have seen in the elections conducted by political parties,” he noted.
