The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) founder and presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has said the former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, could have been his running if he (Obi) had not joined the Labour Party (LP).
Obi became the presidential candidate of the Labour Party after other aspirants stepped down for him on Monday.
Speaking in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, said he was in touch with Obi before the news of his joining the Labour Party broke.
He said, “Many people suggested that (for Obi to be his running mate). I believe it could have been possible if not because he joined another party and now he is already a candidate as we have seen from the news just now.
“Actually we had opportunities to talk to ourselves on many national issues, until few days to the time when he declared for the Labour Party, of which he is now the presidential candidate. I wish him well and I wish all other presidential candidates well. I’m sure all these would be decide by the electorate across the country who are going to vote on the 25th of February, 2023.”
