All Progressives Congress (APC)’s presidential aspirants from the South-East have promised to back whoever among them that emerged as the party’s standard bearer ahead of the 2023 election.
They made their position known after a closed doors meeting in Abuja.
The meeting took place at the residence of the former governor of Imo State and Senator representing Imo West senatorial district, Rochas Okorocha.
Those at the meeting include former Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu; former Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba; former Senate President, Ken Nnamani; and a female aspirant, Uju Ken-Ohanenye as well as Okorocha himself.
Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, who was scheduled to attend the meeting, was absent.
In a communique read on their behalf by Senator Nnamani, the aspirants commended Nigerians who supported the aspiration of the South-East to produce the next president of the country.
The communique reads: “The president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its National Working Committee (APC), as well as the teeming members of the party, are commended by the entire people of the south-east on their avowed commitment to the unity of Nigeria and the inclusion of all parts of Nigeria in the general architecture of the nation.
“We commend all Nigerians who are committed to the Nigerian project by the wholehearted support of the aspiration of the South-East to produce the next Nigerian president in 2023.
“In furtherance of these commitments, all aspirants herein commit to align with any of our South-East aspirants that is accepted by and chosen by other Nigerians to fly the flag of the APC.”
