Bandits have abducted Malam Hamza Shiitu, the principal of Government Junior Day Secondary school, Dandume in Funtua.
Family sources told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that the man was abducted on Friday when he went alongside two of his relatives to negotiate for the release of their herd of cattles rusted by the bandits.
A source at the Government College Funtua from where Malam Hamza was seconded to Dandume to oversee the school, said the school authority and some relatives of the abductee have been making efforts to reach out to the bandits.
The family source, who asked not to be named, said the other person was shot and has been receiving treatment at the Funtua General Hospital.
“When we found out those (bandits) who rustled our cattles, Malam kept in communication with them and we were trying to see if we can convince them to give us our cows. One day, they said Malam should go to a meeting point so that they would negotiate and see the possibility of giving the cows but as soon as they see them (Malam and his two relatives), they shot one of them while they took Malam away and asked the other one to return back home,” he said.
He added that the bandits were yet to reach out to the family, calling on government to help in saving the abductee.
“It’s disturbing that two days now, they’re yet to contact us for ransom. We don’t even know where they are base and what they want, ” he added.
SP Gambo Isa, the police spokesman in Katsina state didn’t immediately respond to calls and SMS sent to him on the attack.
