The member representing Gummi/Bukkuyum constituency at the Federal House of Representatives, Sulaiman Abubakar Mahmud Gummi, has bought interest and nomination forms to contest for his seat under the PDP in 2023.
Gummi was amongst the members who were declared winners after the APC failed to conduct primaries in 2019. But they all, except one member, decamped to the APC with Governor Bello Matawalle in 2020.
Two weeks ago, a reconciliation was reached between Matawalle and former governor Abdulaziz Yari after which four House of Representatives, 2 senate and 10 House of Assembly seats were ceded to the Yari’s camp.
Sulaiman Gumi’s seat was one of those given to Yari.
The House of Representatives member confirmed to 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE in a terse SMS that he has defected back to his party, PDP and would contest for a return to the house in 2023.
One of his aides, Abbas Imam, said the defection was necessitated by the zeal to continue to provide “better representation to the people. We met with our people and they said no, we must not continue to stay in APC”
The aide said prior to their decamping to APC, the governor promised direct tickets to all those who would be following him.
The only House of Representatives member who remained in PDP, Kabiru Yahaya, representing Mafara/Anka, told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that his colleagues are making consultations with their supporters but will soon rejoin their party.
According to the lawmaker, his aggrieved colleagues have met with Dauda Lawan Dare, who will be contesting for the governor’s seat under the PDP.
