A former Secretary to the Sokoto State Government, Bashir Garba, has been appointed as the new vice chancellor of Sokoto State University
Garba took over from Professor Sani Dangoggo at the Senate building of the university on Thursday.
The new VC promised to prioritise completion of staff quarters in the university, adding that with the staff quarters on ground, staff of the school will have easy access to attend to their students without delay.
He promised to build a guest house and a staff school.
Garba, was also the immediate past Commissioner for Higher Education and former Rector of Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic.
He assured staff and students of the university he would explore available opportunity of proposed Law school in Argungu, Kebbi State, to establish faculty of law in the school.
Garba advised ASUU and other professional unions in the school to find a way out to resolve the festering dispute between them and the government in the interest of the students.
He commended the outgoing Vice Chancellor for not only sustaining all the 23 academic programmes he met, but also increasing it to 39, in addition to 19 postgraduate programmes.
Garba, a Professor of Chemistry said he would resume lecturing students to maintain the accreditation of the school and improve on them all.
Earlier in his remarks, Dangoggo, pledged to make himself available for advice and clarifications whenever his attention was required.
