A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former member of the House of representatives, Professor Haruna Yerima, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently use all available means to free the 62 passengers kidnapped after bombing of the Kaduna train by bandits.
The don said the recent surge in activities of bandits is ridiculing the Buhari administration and making Africa’s biggest economy a laughing stock in the comity of nations.
Professor Yerima said, “Nigeria is on edge. These bandits and insurgents are becoming more daring and emboldened by the day. We can’t just fold our arms and allow them to take Nigeria to ransom.”
He said the terrorists have tested the waters and now “engage in operations that embarrass not only the APC administration but the entire country. President Buhari must take all drastic measures to ensure that these terrorists are rooted out before they snowball into monsters that cannot be tamed.”
Aligning himself with Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum and his Kaduna State counterpart Nasir El-Rufai on the need to get foreign mercenaries to help tackle insecurity, the APC chieftain said, “the issue has gone beyond whatever anybody thinks. The priority of all Nigerians is for this terrorism by bandits and insurgents to end. Nobody cares about the method or nationality of those who will end it. The president needs to act fast on this.”
He said at the rate these attacks are coming; the bandits are bent in overrunning this country. “Before they achieve this devilish intention, our security forces must act fast and save the situation.”
Apart from hemorrhaging the country, Professor Yerima said, the security challenge is overshadowing all the achievements of the Buhari administration. “Buhari needs to apply all measures to remedy the situation,” he said.
