Zamfara State government has deposed Emirs of Zurmi and Dansadau over their alleged links with bandits in the state.
This is coming about 24 hours after the state government received reports of the two committees investigating the alleged involvement of some monarchs in the state in bandits’ activities.
The media aide to the deputy governor, Babangida Umar Zurmi told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE on Wednesday afternoon that the state government decided to depose the emirs and district head after studying the reports.
“Zamfara State Government has approved the immediate deposition of the Emir of Zurmi, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Emir of Dansadau, Alhaji Hussaini Umar and also directed the immediate removal of the District Head of Birnin Tsaba, Alhaji Suleman Ibrahim Dan Yabin Birnin Tsaba,” he said.
The traditional rulers were at different times accused of aiding bandits, frustrating efforts to arrest suspects and involvement in cattle rustling activities.
Two committees inaugurated by the governor submitted their reports to the acting governor, Hassan Muhammad Nasiha, the state deputy governor.
The deputy governor had said the state government would not leave any stone unturned to ensure that the culprits are brought to justice.
