Boko Haram fighters have abducted three officers of the Nigeria Custom Services following their invasion of Geidam town, headquarters of Geidam local government area of Yobe state.
Geidam, a town near the borders with Niger Republic, is about 200 kilometers to Damaturu, the state capital.
The insurgents invaded the town after Maghrib (sunset) prayer on Tuesday and operated for hours without interference by security forces.
The spokesperson of Yobe State Police Command, Dungus Abdulkarim confirmed the attack on Wednesday, but refused to comment on the Customs officers’ abduction.
“My men on the ground informed me that the attack was repelled by the Army ground troop with Airforce support. The information I got was that there was no casualty in the attack,” ASP Dungus said.
A Customs officer in the area who spoke in confidence with journalists, said they were in a sad mood following the abduction of their colleagues.
“Honestly we are all in a very sad mood with what happened to our colleagues in Geidam. We are with them in prayers,” he said.
