At least 27 children have been killed in a boat mishap in Sokoto state.
The tragedy happened on Tuesday in Gidan Magana in Shagari local government area of the state.
The children, between the ages of 10 and 15, were going to the bush across a river to fetch firewood when they drowned, it was gathered.
Chairman of Shagari Local Government Area, Alhaji Aliyu Dantani, who confirmed the incident, said 26 bodies were recovered so far.
Dantani said the number of persons in the boat could not be ascertain yet.
He said authorities and local divers were deployed to search for more victims in the river.
