The Kwara State House of Assembly has reportedly declared the seat of the member representing Ojomu/Balogun constituency, Saheed Popoola, vacant following his defection from the All Progressive Congress (APC) to Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Popoola had been having a running battle with other members of the House, following the frosty relationship between Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed.
Popoola is the only assembly member who belongs to the Lai Mohammed’s camp.
His sack was announced by the Speaker of the Assembly, Engr Yakubu Salihu Danladi, during the plenary on Thursday.
The Speaker said the declaration was in line with Section 109 (1) G of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
However, in response to his sack, Popoola said the House doesn’t have the constitutional right to remove him.
He said, “They don’t have the constitutional right to remove me. I got an injunction from the court restraining them from doing that already. Despite that, they still went ahead. It’s now left to them and the court to fight it out.”
