Four farmers were killed by bandits who invaded Gatawa town in Sabon Birni local government area of Sokoto state.
Our reporter learnt that the attackers came on motorcycles around 4pm on Wednesday.
Malam Faruk Umar, a resident of Sabon Birni which is a few kilometres away from the invaded town, confirmed that the victims were killed while working on their farms.
He said the community and bandits had some issues over some cattle that destroyed their plants last week.
“Some Fulani boys came with cattle which were said to belong to one of the bandits’ leaders in the area.
“The animals destroyed some farmlands and the residents held them until the bandits’ leader came.
“The bandit was very angry with the boys and even flocked them. The cattle were then handed over to him,” he said
“We don’t know whether the attack was in connection with what had happened that time,” he said
