At least six mobile police officers were gunned down by a rampaging officer identified as Sergeant Bello in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Sources said the tragedy happened inside the Police College quarters of Borno Police headquarters in Maiduguri.
The sergeant has been arrested and is currently being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), it was learned.
Reports indicate that the police sergeant had a misunderstanding with his wife and neighbours tried to intervene but he didn’t listen.
The wife reportedly returned to her parents’ house due to alleged severe maltreatment by her husband.
The angry husband reportedly started shooting and threatened to kill everyone around.
He subsequently shot dead six of his colleagues and wounded two others, including his father-in-law.
The wounded have been rushed to the Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri.
There was no immediate comment over the incident from the Borno police command.
