A group of Northern elders has backed the clamour by the Igbos to be included in the country’s security management.
The elders, under the aegis of Coalition of Northern Elders for Peace and Development (CNEPD), made the appeal on Saturday in Abuja.
Some Igbo leaders had earlier urged President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint an Igbo as the next Inspector-General of Police, since none of the Service Chief appointed recently is Igbo.
The national coordinator of CNEPD, Engr. Zana Goni, urged northerners to support the move to give the South East a sense of belonging and deflating the tension arising from the activities of some elements, such as IPOB, in the region.
“We are appealing to President Muhammadu Buhari to consider the issue as that of national importance by immediately reviewing the recent appointments of service chiefs to right the perceived wrong,” Goni said.
