Business mogul, Alhaji Umaru Mutallab, father of Farouk Mutallab, who is serving a life sentence in a US prison for terrorism, says he hopes to see his son one day before his death.
Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab, popularly referred to as “underwear bomber,” was sentenced to life in prison in February 2012, for his role in the attempted Christmas Day 2009 bombing of Northwest Airlines Flight 253.
His father said he has been in contact with his son through the telephone.
Speaking to TrustTV, the former chairman of First Bank of Nigeria, said: “We cannot phone him. He’s the one who can phone us and we do speak.
“Sometimes, he calls twice or thrice in a month. As a matter of fact, his mother, one of his brothers and one of his sisters were with him about three weeks ago.
“They visited him under very strict prison guidelines. But we would keep on praying to Almighty Allah.”
“Maybe one day… Maybe in my lifetime we would see him back,” the former minister of commerce and industry, said.
He, however, said: “But it is a situation whereby he has three life sentences, plus 40 years. It is a lot.
“But only Almighty Allah will bring us into a situation of seeing him in this world, with his siblings here in Nigeria,” the chairman of JAIZ Bank said.
