The President-General of the Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria (SCSN), Dr Ibrahim Datti Ahmad, is dead.
He died in Kano on Thursday after a protracted illness.
He was 83.
He is survived by a wife and 10 children.
The funeral prayer was conducted at the Alfurqan Friday Mosque in Kano.
He was subsequently buried at the Tarauni cemetery in Kano metropolis.
In April 2013, the medical doctor declined to serve in the Boko Haram amnesty committee set up by President Goodluck Jonathan to dialogue with the insurgents over what he described as lack of sincerity on the part of government.
He was a presidential aspirant under the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP).
