A 38-year-old man, Steven Jiya, has set his biological mother, Mrs Comfort Jiya, ablaze.
The tragedy happened in the deceased residence in Darusalam Area of Kpakungu Minna, Niger state capital on Thursday but the she died on Friday.
Mrs Jiya was a principal of Government Girls’ Secondary School, Sabon Wuse, and later Maryam Babangida Girls’ Science College, Minna.
Steven, father of two, who was said to be having drugs-related problems, reportedly returned from Suleja where he is running a private school owned by his mother that fateful Thursday and poured petrol on his mother while she was in her kitchen after an argument.
The former principal died at about 3pm on Friday at Minna General Hospital where she was receiving treatment.
There was no immediate comment from the spokesperson of Niger Police Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun.
Steven was reportedly arrested by the police division at Minna GRA.
