Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Bala Alkali, has expressed worries over the ability of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) to fire rockets shortly before President Muhammad Buhari’s visit to Borno State.
A number of houses were destroyed in Ngomari, Bulumkutu, Ajilari, and Ayafe communities around Maiduguri when terrorists launched rocket attacks.
Speaking to journalists at the end of the emergency security council meeting presided over by President Buhari at the State House on Friday, the IGP said security chiefs were disturbed by the ability of the terrorists to fire rockets.
He said, “They are launching it in major towns, they are launching it in Maiduguri. It is a concern. And it has been seriously checkmated. There are efforts to continuously checkmate it.
“Yes, they have done it, but to a large extent they have not achieved what they intended to achieve because of the situation the security agencies, particularly the military, put in place.”
He,however, said security agencies have been able to determine the origins of the rockets.
