Former Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, will reposition the All Progressives Congress (APC) to its full potential as it was in 2015 if elected national chairman of the party.
A group known as Support 4 AA Yari, which is galvanizing support for the national chairmanship aspiration of the former governor, said in a statement on Wednesday.
The statement signed by its National Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Abdulkadir Dantsoho, said Yari, as one of the founding members of APC, will reinvigorate the party to enable it capture power at all levels during the 2023 general elections.
“With Yari’s track records of performance as governor, he is better placed to revitalize the APC and address the numerous challenges it is currently experiencing nationwide,” the statement noted.
The ruling party is currently battling with crisis in 15 states, while litigations over the legality of the Mai Mala-Buni-led Caretaker Committee are pending in courts
The group said Yari as one of the leaders of the party, has the prerequisite experience to reconcile all aggrieved members and ensure unity as well as introduce paradigm shift in the activities of the party.
“He will rejig the party and give all card-carrying members a sense of belonging, ensure fairness and justice before, during and after the 2023 general elections,” it assured.
The statement appealed to all APC members to rally around the former governor so that the party can be revived for the onerous task ahead.
Explaining why the group is supporting Yari for the position, Dantsoho said that, “we are convinced because of his antecedents. He knows party politics, having been holding positions in the exco right from the grassroots including as secretary and chairman of the party in Zamfara State before becoming governor for two terms.
“It will therefore be a miscalculation for APC to elect a non-party man who is devoid of the kind of experience Yari has as its national chairman.”
