Bandits have kidnapped 13 persons in three villages of Alkammu district in Wurno local government area of Sokoto state.
The attack came hours after Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal met President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja Monday evening.
The district is just some 15 kilometers from the Sokoto metropolis.
The chairman of the local government area, Abubakar Arzika, said they received distress calls from the area around 1am.
“I quickly mobilized security operatives but they fled before we got there.
“They wanted to enter into other villages but for the early arrival of security operatives,” he said.
According to him, 13 villagers were abducted but there is no loss of life.
“Only one village sustained gunshot injury and he is recuperating in the hospital,” Arzika said.
The spokesperson of the state police command, ASP Sanusi Abubakar, didn’t respond to calls put through his mobile phone.
Tambuwal, during the meeting with Buhari, called on President Buhari to declare a full scale state of emergency in all areas where criminals, so determined, are domiciled.
These operations, once conceived and ready for execution, “should be carried out simultaneously in the states where the terrorists have strongholds, such as Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, Niger and Kebbi; as well as elsewhere, where the criminals have hideouts,” he said.
