Shafa’atu, a 30-year old mother, who is the lone survivor in Sokoto bus attack narrated how her 10-month old baby and four daughters were burnt to death.
She also lost her mother, niece and nephew in the attack which occurred last Monday at Gidan Bawa village along Sabon Birni-Isa road.
Speaking from her sick bed after sustaining burns from the attack, she said there were over 40 passengers in the bus when it was attacked.
“There are 33 elderly persons and many children and only two came out alive after the bus burst into flame as a result of gunshots from the bandits.
“The other surviving passenger later died in the hospitals because of the gunshot injury he sustained.
“It is not easy watching your own children, mother and other relatives screaming and burning to ashes under the watch of the attackers,” she said
Shafa’atu who is receiving medical attention at Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto said they were traveling to Kaduna before coming under a heavy attack by bandits few minutes after take off.
The uncle of Shafa’atu also described the incident as the highest wickedness of a man against his fellow human being.
“It is painful losing your relatives in such a gruesome manner but we leave everything to God,” he said
