The traditional of Mbutu ancient kingdom of Aboh Mbaise local government area of Imon state, Eze Damian Nwaigwe, has been abducted by gunmen.
The traditional ruler was taken away at about 2:30 am on Thursday, according to residents.
The incident occurred about 24 hours after gunmen killed two and destroyed many houses during an attack on Etekwuru community in the Ohaji/ Egbema local government area of the state.
Sources said the gunmen, numbering about 10, barricaded the palace of the traditional ruler shot indiscriminately into the air before they took him away in a waiting vehicle.
Police spokesperson in the state, Mike Abattam, confirmed the incident. He said the command had deployed operatives to rescue the monarch unhurt.
