Bandits have again blocked the Gusau – Kaura Namoda – Shinkafi road and abducted over 30 passengers in a Saturday afternoon attack.
Sources told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that majority of those kidnapped were on their way to Lagos.
Mohammed Humility told this reporter that the attack occurred Saturday afternoon.
“For five straight days, these people (bandits) have shut down the main roads leading in and out of Shinkafi town. Even yesterday (Saturday) they blocked the road and abducted several passengers from some communities in Shinkafi local government that were going to Lagos.
“What we found out so far is that the two buses were conveying 18 people each from some villages under Shinkafi. So far, we’ve learnt that most of the passengers have been abducted,” Humility, who heads an NGO in the area told 21 CENTURY CHRONICLE.
He added that the youths were all from Katuru and Shanawa communities and we’re going to Lagos to continue their business.
Another source, who pleaded anonymity said a staff of the Zamfara Comprehensive Agriculture Revolution Programme (ZACAREP) a government agency, Sanusi Mohammed was one of those abducted in the attack.
“Yes, I know one person that is Sanusi Mohammed. He left Gusau to see his family in Shinkafi town but we learnt that he was involved in the attack. He has been kidnapped and the abductors are yet to make contact with the family,” he said.
The police spokesperson, SP Mohammed Shehu’s mobile line didn’t get through after several attempts. He didn’t reply to a WhatsApp message sent to him.
