Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says Nigeria’s problems will increase if the country breaks apart.
Osinbajo said this when members of the Muhammadu Buhari/Osinbajo support group visited him in Abuja, on Thursday.
He said t it was wrong for Nigeria, as the largest economy in Africa, to break apart, adding that the citizens must never relent in ensuring that we keep to the ideals of the country and don’t lose sight of what they are trying to achieve.
“People who suggest that the country breaks up, whatever may be the reason for their views, are certainly not correct and we must say so to them at every turn,” he said.
“The unity of this country is important for all of the different ethnicities, religions, everybody. Whatever the group or ideology, unity is important for every one of us. If you fragment, the problems are going to multiply, poverty will multiply.”
Osinbajo said President Muhammadu Buhari remains focused on putting an end to insecurity, adding that the challenges bedevelling Nigeria will be resolved soon.
“The president is a steady hand; he is unflappable, he is not panicky, he is focused and looking at the security issues every day, and trying to advance the best possible solutions.
The national coordinator of the group, Usman Ibrahim, commended Osinbajo for his commitment to leadership and promotion of national unity, adding that the Vice President’s performance in office was enviable.
