The Kano State Government has vowed to appeal the judgement of an Abuja High Court which voided the ward congresses conducted by the faction of Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.
Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mohammed Lawal, announced the position of the state government while addressing a news conference in Kano.
Justice Hamzat Mu’azu of the FCT high court in Maitama had on Tuesday, declared that the congress conducted by the faction led by former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau and lawmaker, Sha’aban Sharadaas, is the authentic exercise, effectively handing over the structure of the All Progressives Congress in Kano State to Shekarau and Sharadaas.
However, the Kano State Attorney General said the State’s counsels are studying the judgement and would be challenging the decision at the Appeal Court soon.
He said: “We are very surprised about the judgement because our lawyers had filed relevant documents challenging the jurisdiction of the court because the issue happened here in Kano. We are also very surprised (they the people) chose to go to Abuja High Court because these issues happened here in Kano and the case ought to have been filled in Kano.
“Everybody is well aware of the issue of jurisdiction but in any case, our lawyers filed all the relevant documents on the issue but the court went ahead to say that it has the jurisdiction.
“Our lawyers are studying the judgement and we are going to appeal the judgement.”
