No fewer than 21 persons have been killed and another 40 kidnapped in a renewed bandits attack on Shiroro communities in Niger state.
The attack which occurred on Monday when about dozens gunmen on motorcycles stormed four villages of Kurege, Sabon gida, Sararai and Rafin Kanya shooting sporadically and killing some people and abducted many others.
An indigene of Shiroro local government council, Malam Galadima Salisu, who witnessed the incident said unless governments at all level come to their aid the entire area could be taken over by bandits who operate at will.
The Niger State Command, Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun couldn’t comment on the incident.
When contacted on the phone, Secretary to the Niger State Government, Ahmed Matane, confirmed the incident, but denied knowledge of the actual number of people killed.
Matane said the state government was doing everything possible within its powers to address the problem of insecurity bedeviling its people.
