Surajo Garba Mai Katako has emerged the factional Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Zamfara State as crisis between Governor Bello Matawalle and Marafa/Yari’s camp rages.
Mai Katako is a key associate of Senator Kabir Marafa.
He emerged through a consensus arrangement during the state congress held by the Marafa camp in Tsafe local government area Saturday afternoon.
He was a vocal critic of former Governor Abdulaziz Yari and incumbent Governor, Bello Mohammed Matawalle before Marafa mend fences with Yari after the 2019 general elections.
The Yari camp opted out of the congress like they did during the ward and local government exercises.
Nasiru Muhammad Gummi also emerged as secretary of the Marafa’s faction.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that Tukur Dan Fulani emerged chairman of the party in the state in a separate exercise monitored by the delegation of national headquarters of the party led by Ibrahim Kabir Masari.
Mr Masari announced that the 36 new executive council members were selected base on consensus.
Mr Dan Fulani, a loyalist of both former Gov. Ahmed Yarima and Governor Matawalle, emerged chairman through a consensus arrangement with Ibrahim Gado Sony as secretary.
