Bandits have attacked Kwarin Mai Saje community in Tsafe local government area of Zamfara state for failing to realize the N3 million levy imposed on residents of the village.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE exclusively reported how bandits imposed levies on 13 communities in the area, but Kwarin Mai Saje was not among the 13.
The bandits, suspected to be loyal to banditry kingpin Ada Aleru, imposed the levy on Kwarin Mai Saje two weeks ago.
Sama’ila Tsafe, a native of the area, who is also a youth advocate told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that the bandits felt the residents belittled them by not complying.
“The village was attacked yesterday by bandits numbering 100. They gathered all the residents, looted the village of every important property and raped many women that were found hiding in their houses. They also kidnapped six people during the attack that lasted for several hours.
“It was not as if the villagers didn’t pay the money, they couldn’t gather the required N3 million. They sought for assistance and came up with N600,000 but the bandits felt bad that they couldn’t get the money imposed on the villagers,” he said.
He added that the attack on Kwarin Mai Saje would be a warning to other defaulting villages in the area.
The Zamfara state police spokesperson, Mohammed Shehu didn’t respond to calls and SMS sent to him on the attack.
There was also no response from the retired DIG Mamman Tsafe, Special Adviser to Governor Bello Matawalle on security matters.
