At least seven people have been killed in an explosion in Kubwa village market, a suburb of Abuja on Friday.
A tank full of kerosene exploded, killing the seven people including a five-year- old baby, with many others seriously injured.
There are fears that the fatalities could be higher.
The explosion which occurred at about 7: 49 pm affected roadside petty traders who were mainly women with children, many passers-by and destroyed their businesses.
The FCT Fire Service came to the rescue of the residents, but eye witnesses said the fire fighters did not arrive in time.
There was no immediate reason for the explosion, with witnesses blaming the inferno on adulterated product while others are saying it was sparked by a candle light from nearby shops.
