Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, says suspension of telecommunication services in some states in North West meant to tackle the bandits was useless.
Sani said this on his Twitter handle while reacting to bandits’ attack on Baptist Church, Kakau Daji, Chikun local government area of Kaduna state, on Sunday.
The bandits killed two worshippers and abducted many others during the attack.
Chikun local government area is among the areas where telecommunication service is suspended.
Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, and Kaduna state governments had suspended telecommunication services in bandits-prone communities as a non-kinetic measure to stem the tide of banditry.
While the governors of the various states said the measure was yielding the desired objectives, as many bandits have been arrested, some residents of the states had said that despite the measure bandits had launched several attacks on citizens.
The ex-lawmaker said the attack on worshippers was “another sad story of how deteriorating our insecurity has become.”
He, therefore, called on the Federal Government to declare bandits as terrorists.
