Chairperson of League of Women Voters in Nigeria, Benue State chapter, Irene Awunah-Ikyegh, has declared for Benue House of Assembly in 2023 general elections.
She said she decided to contest for Mbagwa State Constituency of Ushongo in the state to pull support and development opportunities to the people at the grassroots who have been neglected for too long.
Awunah-Ikyegh, who is contesting on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said this in Mbakuha, Ushongo local government on Thursday.
She said since the creation of Ushongo local government, it has always recorded excellent performance when especially, a woman represents them, adding that her time won’t be an exception.
Husband to the aspirant, Barrister Malcolm Kerker Ikyegh, while handing over the candidate to party members in Mbakuha, said he had officially presented his wife to his kinsmen, and solicited their support to ensure her victory in 2023 election.
A former PDP Women Leader in Mbakuha, Esther Pungwa and a Youth Leader, Saawuan Zaka, among party loyalists called on people of the constituency to support Awunah-Ikyegh to actualise her dream to alleviate the sufferings of her people.
